Gulf Coast Works, formerly known as Bridge to Biloxi, is a non-profit organization managed entirely by volunteers. We depend not only on those who donate their valuable time and energy, but also on those groups and individuals who commit financial resources toward rebuilding homes and communities devasted by Hurricane Katrina.

Gulf Coast Works began as, and remains, a small team of dedicated citizens who volunteer 100 percent of their efforts so that over 90 percent of your donations can go directly to helping those who need it most; families struggling to survive, many of whom are still awaiting promised resources that have never arrived.
Current needs, financial and otherwise

Gulf Coast Works is committed to helping those who have few, if any, available means to recover from the ravages of Katrina. In addition to our continuous efforts to facilitate the process for people to commit to volunteer work on the Gulf Coast, we also finance rebuilding projects that require significant planning, permitting, procurement, and the contracting of licensed, skilled professionals.

In early 2008, we will begin construction on a home in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward for a family that lost everything. The Ninth Ward's grassroots neighborhood association, NENA, has selected a highly qualified family for us, and will continue to support GCW on all phases of the project (for more details, click here). The estimated construction cost for building a modest 2-bedroom, 1-bath home in the Lower Ninth Ward, using volunteer labor, is over $60,000...a significant sum of money, to be sure, but a reasonable amount by any standard for housing in the U.S.

GCW can start this project with its existing funds, but we'll need significant additional contributor-funding to complete this job and prepare for the next. Your donation, no matter the amount, will be put to great use helping those who have struggled for over two years to hold on to their American Dream.
